It All Happens In The New Feed

Facebook users stay connected to their friends (and Pages they’ve liked) by scrolling down their News Feed, which is the default view for all Facebook users after logging in at facebook.com.

Once logged in, they can filter through their News Feed up to nine different ways:

  1. Top News – The most relevant / engaged content.
  2. Most Recent – Reverse chronological order.
  3. Games – The latest game updates from friends in reverse chronological order.
  4. Status Updates – The latest status updates by friends or Pages in reverse chronological order.
  5. Photos – The latest photos posted by friends or Pages in reverse chronological order.
  6. Links – Latest links shared by friends or Pages in reverse chronological order.
  7. Pages – The latest stories from all Pages that the user has liked.
  8. Questions – The latest Facebook Questions posted by friends or Pages in reverse chronological order..
  9. Friend Lists – Users can also filter their news feed to see only posts from friends within a specific list.

These same options show up in the Facebook iPhone app. And according to Facebook, there are more than 250 million active users accessing Facebook from mobile phones.

A stupidly simple way to get in more News Feeds

Take another look at the list of nine ways of filtering News Feed content.

What do you notice about Page stories?

If you answered that Page stories have an opportunity to show up in seven out of the nine filters, you get a silver star. You get a gold star if you’ve already concluded that posting a wider variety of story types will get you in more News Feeds.
